DESIGN The collection features exquisite lamps in opal white blown glass designed to illuminate private and public spaces – from homes to hotels, restaurants, bathrooms, staircases, coffee bars, cafeterias, classrooms, and kitchens. Opal white glass is a unique material that delivers a soft, diffused light of unparalleled quality thanks to its combination of brightness and low glare. All Meltemi lamps are mouth-blown in a factory with over 100 years of experience. As blown glass is produced exclusively by traditional craft techniques, its thickness, color and finish are subject to variation, a feature making each piece unique. Meltemi has recently introduced an important range of new architectural lamps called “Light Powerhouse”. LIGHT POWERHOUSE Literally “powerful light generator”. This concept describes a specific approach to illuminating a space using a small number of high power lights together with a few “accent” lights. The high power lights provide a good general illumination and the accent lights add choreographic light and shadow effects. The advantages: - savings on hardware and installation costs; - no need for unsightly cut-outs in the ceiling (as with recessed lights) - neutral effect on the architecture; - low power consumption thanks to electronic control equipment; - manual or computer controlled dimming for fluorescent light sources - active illumination of spaces: creating emotional effects that give increased value to displays of goods, objects, forms and people. |
Who are they for? For the architect who requires fittings that are extremely simple aesthetically, together with high build quality. “Light Powerhouse” does not compete with the architecture of the space: on the contrary, it complements it through reinforcing the choices made by the designer. Where? Intended mainly for spaces such as showrooms, exhibitions, museums, large retail areas, meeting rooms, conference rooms, corridors and transit areas (airport halls, stations, lobbies). Why is “Light Powerhouse” different? The structure is made from metal and glass components. The glass is coloured black and forms part of the structure itself so that it looks not so much like a box but rather like a fixture with its own distinct character. Also, the glass diffusers are treated (by sandblasting and screen printing) so that glare is reduced and the light output angle is increased to the maximum. And the light sources? “Light Powerhouse” uses the most technologically advanced low energy light sources (compatible with the size of each fixture). All are powered electronically (compact fluorescent or metal halide). And the reflectors? Made from pure aluminium, asymmetrical or symmetrical providing indirect or direct light depending on requirements. |  |
